Shawn and Alex

This morning at 8:00 a send-off was held at the Peace Plaze for 36 scouts ages 12 to 17 from 14 cities in this region and from various troops. Alex is one of the 36. The scouts are heading to the National Scout Jamboree in Fredericksburg, VA. The Jamboree will last 10 days and include everything from rock climbing to scuba diving and traditionally the President of the US speaks at the event. Alex's troop will do alot of sight seeing on the way to and on the way home from the Jamboree, a stop in Washington D.C. to tour the Capital, the Pentagon, White House, monuments. The stops will also include the Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio, Kings Dominion water park and Hershey Park. This is an awesome adventure for Alex and I'm very happy that he is able to go.
Shawn left on Saturday morning and drove out with other adult staff members. Shawn is on staff there, which I know he will enjoy, he just won't have the site seeing possibilies that Alex has. Shawn attended the National Jamboree as a scout also, so he knows how interesting this will be for Alex.
The Boy Scouts are celebrating their 100 year anniversay, and this is the last year the Jamboree will be held at Fort A.P. Hill, an Army installation near Fredericksbury, VA. The Jamboree is held only every 4th year.

It was neat to see the boys gathering at the peace plaza this morning! It's so awesome that Shawn and Alex will have this moment to share together...even if they aren't totally together while at Jamboree. Hope they both have a blast and treasure this time!

Too bad I didn't know they were heading out this morning. I probably would have come out to see them take off. Hope they have a great time and I'm sure Alex will have lots to tell us when he gets back home. Way to go Alex!
